Introduction on IR Filter Switch Driver AP1511 for ICR

2018-03-15

The ICR (IR-Cut filter Removable), built-in video surveillance mostly, is a shutter apparatus powered by motor or electromagnet mechanism. Placed between the image sensor and the lens, the ICR module allows the filter to be placed or removed from the front of the sensor, depending on the illumination level.

Near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths span from 700nm up to near 1,000nm. Due to high sensitivity of many image sensors to near-infrared (NIR) light, most image sensors can detect NIR but it is beyond what the human eye can see. The purpose of filter placed or removed is to block or reflect infrared wavelengths while passing ambient light.

As light diminishes below a certain level, the video images will be turned into black and white mode. The filter will be removed so that camera can make use of NIR light to deliver high-quality images. On the contrary, when the illumination level is higher than a certain level, the filter will be placed to block infrared light so that the colors of images will not be distorted as the human eyes see.
